India Post  issued a set of  four stamps and a Miniature Sheet on 14 March 2012  to commemorate 100 years of civil aviation in the country.Indian Civil Aviation completed 100 years on 18th February, 2011.

Praful Thakkar, the renowned philatelist of Gujarat is Limca Book Record Holder in 2009 for Autographs & Canteen Tokens and  is a collector of autographs, stamps, First Day Covers (FDCs), coins, medals, tokens, badges , badge plates etc. and many more collectibles of India since last more than 45 years. My  broadband connection is not working for the last 15 days due to Big Road repair project on Shamshi - Kullu  highway and all telephone lines of BSNL have been broken down in whole Shamshi area   for unlimited period . This has caused lot of problem for Internet connectivity in offices and home. Now I am using another 2G connection which takes time to download heavy files. So plz do not send  your mails with heavy files.

Real Tributes to unsung heroes by a Philatelist…

Here I wish to share a great work and  service by Mr Anil Dhir, renowned philatelist from Bhubaneshwar. Mr Dhir is known for his extraordinary   work and  deep research in  philately and   social fields. “The Last Post” is an excellent example of his work with many more to mention… His selfless effort  and love for deep research makes him always very special in his work and findings. 1945 - An untold story of war & love

This story begins with a visit to the Madras War Cemetery early this year, by a man in quest of a trace dating back some 66 years. The man in question, Anil Dhir has a penchant for history and has an enviable record in unearthing the glories of the past. Dhir says he was in search of material for his article on the War Cemeteries in India, which took him from one end of the geography to the other. 

His quest landed him in Chennai, where the Madras War Cemetery is situated. The Cemetery presented interesting clues before Dhir and a challenge too. At the Cemetery he had a tryst with an interesting disclosure - a set of fourteen graves which were of airmen who had apparently died in a plane crash at Amarda Road. The fourteen individually named headstones were arranged side-by-side, but from the Cemetery Registry it was learnt that they had been interred as a collective grave. A collective grave is a burial of recovered remains which, though not individually identified, constitute of a small group of known individuals.

It is a gigantic task, almost impossible to locate the living relatives of  the  airmen   who died in crash many years ago..... and  real  heart felt tributes to the  unsung heroes by Mr Anil Dhir  who is always in the quest of something different and unique !!  This is a heart touching story. To do this work one must have a great patience to work and wait .....which Mr Dhir has proved...in many  of his tasks done in past years.... The Last Post by Anil Dhir is one such example , well  known to   philatelists...   Philatelic Community is proud to be asscoited with Mr Dhir !! Great work  by him !!

Centenary of First UK Airmail to be celebrated by Royal Mail…

Royal Mail is issuing a miniature stamp sheet and prestige stamp book on 9 September 2011, as a tribute to the pioneering aviators who made philatelic history through the UK’s first aerial post service a century ago.

Gustav Hamel’s 15-minute flight from Hendon Aerodrome to Windsor Castle on 9 September 1911 was part of the celebrations of the coronation of King George V.  It was the first of 16 aerial post flights carrying commemorative postage to mark the coronation.  The flights took place until 26 September 1911 and are recognised as the world’s first scheduled airmail service.

Now exactly 100 years on, Royal Mail marks the event with a miniature sheet, featuring a border that replicates the design of an original publicity poster for the inaugural flight.  The four-pane prestige stamp book written by Peter Lister, President of the British Air Mail Society includes a pane comprising four 50p Windsor Castle stamps, re-issued from the 2005 set of high-value definitives stamps printed by intaglio.

The Aerial Post Miniature Sheet tells the story of this historic flight; featuring original photography of key events from the day; from Hamel receiving the first mail bag (1^st Class), sitting in the cockpit of his Blériot XI monoplane at Hendon Aerodrome (68p), and his arrival in the grounds of Windsor Castle (£1.10). The fourth £1 stamp features Clement Greswell, another of the pilots who helped deliver the UK’s first aerial post.

 

World’s First Airmail…

On Feb. 18th 2011, the Centenary of the world's first Airmail will be celebrated. India’s noted aero philatelist Mr Pradip Jain has recently donated the 1911 World's First Airmail Flown carried cover to the Smithsonian Postal Museum which is supposed to be the world's best postal / philatelic museum showcasing the treasurer of philately world and is regularly visited by thousands of visitors .

Hi! Here is the recent Stamp issued by La Poste to commemorate first woman pilot of the world. The great pilot died at a very young age of 37. This post is a philatelic tribute to the great pilot and all  those women who became a milestone in the history and will be remembered for ever….This is all for this evening…..Till Next Post…Have a Great Time !

Elise Deroche

The French Post has issued a stamp on 18 October  dedicated to the first qualified woman pilot in France and in the world. Raymonde de Laroche (22 August 1882 - 18 July 1919), born Elise Raymonde Deroche, was the first woman in the world to receive an airplane pilot's licence. On October 22nd 1909 at Chalons, she made her first solo flight of 300 yards in a Voisin biplane. "It is infinitely more charming than motoring" she said. A plane crash in 1910 (in which she received dreadful injuries) and a car crash in 1912 failed to deter her. After many unsuccessful attempts to join the French Air Force she died in a plane crash in 1919. A statue of de la Roche stands at Le Bourget airport in France.

Records

In July 1910 de Laroche was participating in the week long air show at Reims in France. On 8 July her aeroplane crashed and she suffered such severe injuries that her recovery was in doubt but two years later she was fit again and had returned to flying. On 26 September 1912 she was injured in the automobile accident in which Charles Voisin was killed.

On 25 November 1913 de Laroche won the Aero-Club of France's Femina Cup for a non-stop long-distance flight of over 4 hours duration.

During World War I, as flying was considered too dangerous for women, she served as a military driver, chauffeuring officers from the rear zones to the front under fire.

In June 1919 de Laroche set two women's altitude records, one at 15,700 feet (4,800 m); and also the women's distance record, at 201 miles (323 km).

From March 6 to March 12 2010, to celebrate the Centennial of Licensed Women Pilots, women pilots from eight countries on three continents used 20 types of aircraft to establish a new world record: 225 girls and women introduced to piloting by a woman pilot in one week.

Flying High

Hi Readers, In today's Post some issues on Air Displays. Flying high is a thrilling experience. Air Displays
Farnborough, in Hampshire, has a long history of involvement with aviation. In fact it probably can claim to have a closer, more continuous association with man’s conquest of the air than anywhere else. On the stamps, here are six images that illustrate just some of the displays enjoyed in the UK.

The Red Arrows: First Class and 50p
A well-loved highlight of national celebrations and airshows both in the UK and abroad, the RAF aerobatic display team, the Red Arrows, feature on both the first class and the 50p stamp. Formed in 1965 as the public face of the RAF and a powerful recruitment vehicle, the Red Arrows dramatically demonstrate the skills of Britain’s finest pilots.

The First Class stamp features the Red Arrows flying at the Dartmouth Air Show in 2006 with their trademark blue and red vapour painting the sky. The 50p stamp features a young fan awe-struck before a classic Red Arrow Hawk aircraft formation fly past.


The RAF Falcons: 48p
The 48p stamp features the RAF Falcons performing one of their breathtaking precision, parachute formation displays at Biggin Hill in 2006. Based at RAF Brize Norton as part of the No1 Parachute Training School, all the Falcons are RAF Parachute Jumping Instructors specifically trained to perform highly skilled freefall and canopy maneuvers at speeds of up to 180mph.
Avro Vulcan Prototypes and Avro 707s -56p
Part of the RAF’s V bomber force acting as a nuclear deterrent against the Soviet Union during the Cold War, the subsonic Avro Vulcan delta wing bomber was operated by the RAF from 1953 until 1984. In this time it was also used as a conventional bomber during the Falklands conflict. Only one example of this type of aircraft remains in flying condition. The Avro 707 was an experimental aircraft built to test the delta wing concept which was later incorporated into the Vulcan. The stamp features a shot of both aircrafts taken at Farnborough in 1953.




WB Moorhouse – 81p
This stamp features a photograph taken in around 1912, featuring the aviator WB Moorhouse flying in an air race at Hendon. Moorhouse went on to become the first pilot to be awarded a Victoria Cross in 1915 during the First World War.
