On 01/10/11 I have hosted a website which displays my exclusive Gandhiji's collections. This bilingual (both Tamil & English) website was inaugurated by Mr.V.Kalyanam who was then Gandhiji's personal secretary. This website contains Gandhiji's memorabilia such as Stamps, coins, currencies, tokens, telephone cards, post cards, special covers, statues and a few rare photo graphs too. Since more than 120 countries have honored Gandhiji by issuing stamps. Personally I believe that today's younger generation who surfs through this site would be really attracted towards Gandhiji and his principles. My dream of spreading Gandhian principle across the globe has resulted in www.gandhiworld.in .

Date of Issue – 7 February 2011

Hi ! Here are  new stamps issued to commemorate Marie Curie, the greatest scientist of all times. She had the distinction of receiving Nobel Prize twice. In the year 1906 for Physics and in 1911 for Chemistry ! Spain and French Post recently honored this great Scientist by issuing commemorative stamp on her during International Year of Chemistry.

International Year of Chemistry

The General Assembly of the United Nations has proclaimed 2011 as International Year of Chemistry and philately joins in this celebration with a commemorative stamp.

The IYC 2011 is an initiative of IUPAC, the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry, and of UNESCO. The goals of IYC2011 are to increase the public appreciation of chemistry in meeting world needs, to encourage interest in chemistry among young people, and to generate enthusiasm for the creative future of chemistry.

Date of Issue - 27 January 2011

The year 2011 will coincide with the 100th anniversary of the Nobel Prize for Chemistry awarded to Madame Marie Curie and with the 100th anniversary of the founding of the International Association of Chemical Societies.Throughout the year there will be a wide range of interactive, entertaining, and educational activities under the unifying theme “Chemistry—our life, our future” emphasizing that chemistry is a creative science essential for sustainability and improvements to our way of life and how chemical research is critical for improving our every day life as it is involved in the production of food, health and a large number of manufactured goods.

The Nobel Prize in Chemistry Marie Curie, was a Polish-born French scientist. The daughter of a distinguished professor, she was born in Warsaw in 1867 where she studied until the age of 24 when she moved to Paris to continue her studies at the Sorbonne. She obtained a degree in physics and mathematics and in 1895 she married French physicist Pierre Curie and became his most effective collaborator. A few years later she obtained her Phd with a thesis dedicated to radioactive substances. In 1898 in collaboration with her husband she discovered two new chemical elements: polonium, named in reference to her native country and radio.

In 1903 she was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics shared with her husband and physicist Henri Becquerel for discovering radioactivity. After the death of her husband in 1906, she became professor of physics at the Sorbonne thus becoming the first woman who taught at the University of Paris. Author of several books and founder of the Radium Institute, in 1911 she received the Nobel Prize in Chemistry and the first person to receive this. distinction twice. 2011 - International Year of Chemistry

chem

Date of Issue : 17 January 2011

The  UN General Assembly declared the year 2011 to be the International Year of Chemistry (IYC). The main theme of IYC 2011 is "Chemistry - Our Life, Our Future" focused on the achievements of chemistry and its contribution to well-functioning human society. Slovakia has issued a stamp on 17 January, commemorating the International Year of Chemistry.

Issue of “International Year of Chemistry 2011” is based on the environmentally motivated idea. We are alive because of the ingenious natural chemical reaction – photosynthesis, which ensures the existence of life on earth. Its exceptional performance and waste-free process makes photosynthesis an example, which shows the direction of chemically motivated human activity.

The basis of the stamp design is made up of two important chemical compounds, water and carbon dioxide, depicted according to the calotte model, which interact in photosynthesis. Colouring of the stamp reflects dual-wise two basic stages of photosynthesis: light – in the form of sunlight and dark – in the form of blue colour symbolizing water. Sunlight and chlorophyll are the catalyst of photosynthesis, which results in oxygen and glucose, two molecules of life, having an essential role in our lives.

FDC

The green leaf appears on the first day cover (FDC), representing chlorophyll, along with formulas of entering and generated chemical compounds and completes the picture of this unique photochemical reaction. C60 fullerene is pictured on the FDC stamp. It is one of several allotropic forms of carbon. Fullerenes are of significant importance and they are used in nanotechnology, which is one of the most attractive technologies of chemistry today.
