Pt Deendayal Upadhyay stamp with smiling teeth ??

Pt. Deendayal Upadhyay stamp - A variety with teeth

The reported variety shows the mouth of the personality open with stunning white teeth, the normal variety shows mouth closed. The reported variety is used, with the usual round date stamp at the corner.

Hi !

Here  I share  a report  published in February 2012 issue of Stanley Gibbons "Stamp Monthly", informing an important post independece olive-brown and pale orange Indian stamp issued on 5th May, 1978, commemorating Pt Deendayal Upadhyaya, with denomination 25p. (SG Cat. N0. 888). It is interesting and  readers  must check their collection if they have any such stamp ?? However I doubt the existence of such a stamp. It could also be a manipulation of the existing stamp, which was stuck on the cover and thus was defaced by the post (the name of the post office where it was defaced is not clear from the cancellation). I am thankful to Dr Avinash Jagtap of Switzerland  who sent me scan of this report with the details !!

This is all for this evening….Till Next Post….Have a great time !

-Kasinath R from Thanjavur ( Tamil Nadu) writes…

I saw the private cover of 2nd Africa – India Forum Summit 2011, created by Mr. Boben in your blog, and earlier in another philatelic site. I noticed an error in the postmark obtained at Trivandrum that, a large chunk of Indian eastern coast is missing in the postmark, which is a grave error. This must be notified to the concerned bureau and steps need to be taken to replace the postmark.

Signs of the Zodiac: Gemini, the twins
Named for the stars Castor and Polydeuces (also known as Pollux--and the two stars together are known as the Dioscuri), Gemini means twins in Latin. The third astrological sign in the Zodiac, Gemini is considered an air sign, and is closely associated with the planet Mercury. The sun is in Gemini from approximately May 21 to June 20. However, some astrologists claim that the end of the constellation's rule is at the very moment the Solstice begins on June 21.

Year 2011 Calendar by India Post

In an innovative brand building measure, Department of Posts had brought out an “India Post Calendar” in the year 2010 on the theme of Jayadev and Geetagovinda. The Calendar was designed on the popular set of eleven Dasavatar commemorative postage stamps issued by the Department of Posts (based on Jayadev’s 12th century epic Geetagovinda). The calendar was received very well by the public at large and was widely appreciated in bureaucratic, corporate, media and philatelic circles.Enthused with the response on India Post Calendar 2010, the Department of Posts has brought out its year 2011 Calendar which is on the theme of Buddha.

image

More than 2500 years ago, a young man meditated on life and death and found enlightenment. That man was Siddhartha Gautam whom we know as The Buddha. Buddha, in his first sermon after enlightenment laid out the Noble Eightfold Path, also known as the Middle Path, as the way leading to the cessation of suffering. Buddha preached commitment to a nonviolent way of life. A commitment that included a profound concern for the welfare of all. Buddha abhorred dogma and ritual, inequity and injustice. He preached the gospel of love and compassion and encouraged people to follow the path of righteousness, benevolence and humanism.

India Post has celebrated the heritage of Buddha by issue of a number of postage stamps on his legacy from time to time. India Post 2011 Calendar is inspired by these postage stamps and includes images drawn from the vast trove of Buddhist art and culture.
The message of Buddha is relevant to each one of us even today. India Post dedicates its year 2011 Calendar to this legacy of Buddha. The ‘India Post 2011 Calendar’ is available in the philatelic bureaux at all state capitals across the country for sale at the price of Rs.200/-
