International Woman’s Day…

tr

Date of Issue – 15 February 2011

TODAY, Tuesday March 8, millions of women across the world will join together to celebrate what it means to be a woman.

This year the day will also mark the centenary of the very first International Women’s Day (IWD). Australia Post is commemorating the milestone with the launch of a special stamp issue.

“The stamp recognises the economic, political and social achievements of women past, present and future of the women”

The first IWD was launched on March 19 1911 by the leader of the Women’s office for the Social Democratic Party in Germany. More than a million European women and men united to call for an end to discrimination and for the right of women to vote, work and hold public office.
