Weekly Royal Fashion Awards: November 12-19, Plus More Stuff

Best in Regular Stuff
Crown Princess Victoria
Mathilde at a couple palace events and visiting a hospital; Kate out and about at a charity; Mary at a meeting; Victoria at the Royal Swedish Academy of War Sciences' formal gathering, at a couple engagements and holding an audience
Call this the non-trip category - and call Victoria the winner, if only for giving us at least one evening gown, even if it is a repeat and even if it is another almost-tiara-but-not occasion.

Brightest in Trips
Queen Máxima
Yesterday we caught up with the traveling Danes and Spaniards, today we have a partial selection of the Dutch on their ongoing introductory trip to the Caribbean. Máx on a big trip is usually like catnip to me, so I'm not sure why this one's left me feeling rather meh so far. Ah, well, they're not done yet. No matter what, I remain impressed at her ability to dig up so many neon-flavored outfits.

And an Honorable Mention to...
The Hats of National Day in Monaco

Charlene's coat is giving me Star Trek bathrobe vibes, but you have to give the Monaco crew: those were some actual hats. All hats or no hats, no fascinator shenanigans here.

And One Last Addition...
The Countess of Wessex

So much going on right now, I nearly forgot to give Sophie her proper due for rocking her Benjamin Button fabulousness in Valentino red while celebrating Doctor Who at Buckingham Palace. Do you think if I wrote to the palace really nicely, I could get her secret for de-aging? Because I'm just getting older over here, and it's not fair.

Who was your best dressed last week?

Week in Review: The Duchess of Cambridge, 11-19 March

  1. a and b) Visiting the women's Olympic hockey team, 15 March. Look! Cambridge No. 1 rides again! And I like her patriotic little outfit with the Team GB Paralympic scarf, even though I saw it compared to a flight attendant somewhere and can't get that out of my head.
  2. Visiting Dulwich Picture Gallery with the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall, 15 March. Doubling up on the engagements, and clearly feeling one colorful turn a day is plenty. (I kid, but I do prefer this one to her last Orla Kiely.)
  3. Presenting shamrocks to the Irish Guards for St. Patrick's Day, 17 March. Yay for Emilia Wickstead! I love her - she was even one of my dark horse hopes to be chosen as The Wedding Dress Designer.
  4. Opening a new facility (and making her first public speech) for EACH hospices, 19 March, wearing a dress also worn by her mother... and yes, this is exactly the dress one's mum would also wear, if you know what I mean.

Week in Review: The Duchess of Cambridge, 19-25 February

  1. Walking the dog, 20 February.
  2. Visiting schools for The Art Room, 21 February, in Orla Kiely. This is, like, half cute and half something Grandma that stopped shopping in 1978 might own. All I know is Grandma certainly wouldn't style it with SHOOTIES.
Because I know someone will object, let me define it for you:
  • SHOOTIES: Anything and everything from the almost-but-not-really-just-kidding shoe-ish things up to the not-boots calf highlighters. For use by those that find them all to be fug and don't care enough to differentiate. To be said with an intonation appropriate for greeting one's archnemesis and to be written in all caps for emphasis.
