Stamps on Bees

Bees play an important role in pollinating flowering plants. Their disappearance could lead to food shortages. In order to raise understanding about bees and pay more attention to the conservation of ecology, Chunghwa Post will issue a souvenir sheet which comprises six stamps, each featuring a bee species of Taiwan . The designs follow:

1. Phimenes flavopictus (NT＄5): This predatory wasp has yellow markings on its black body, giving it coloring that resembles that of a yellow and black striped tiger. Females build their mud nests in places such as tree trunks and cliff-face crevices. It is also called the "tiger-striped potter wasp" in Chinese.

2. Apis mellifera (NT＄10): Commonly known as the western honey bee, most of them have a yellowish brown chest. The species' worker bees have specialized pollen baskets, which can be found on the tibia of their hind legs.

3. Xanthopimpla pedator (NT＄5): The range of this parasitic wasp was once used to control she-oak pests.

4. Xylocopa tranquebarorum (NT＄10): This pollinator has almost dark black body. Its wings have a purple, copper sheen to them. Females build their nests by boring holes into dead bamboo.

5. Vespa ducalis (NT＄5): This stinging wasp has two golden yellow rings on its abdomen which are its most salient feature. Its last four abdominal segments are black.

6. Apis cerana (NT＄10): Commonly known as the eastern honey bee, this pollinator lives in the wild mostly. Its appearance greatly resembles the western honey bee. It has alternating yellow and black stripes on its abdomen.

New stamps on London 2012 Olympics…

Israel Post  celebrates the London 2012 Olympics with an energetic stamp set. These stamps have the official London 2012 Olympics logo and Olympic rings symbol.

These stamps will be issued on June 26th 2012. Starting from June Israel's stamps will no longer have phosphor bands. Israel's stamps will now be printed with a microtext hidden security mark. All the stamps issued in June 2012 will bear the Israel Post logo in microtext. The logo can only been seen with a magnifying glass and its position on the stamp is different on each stamp.

The London 2012 Olympic Brilliant Uncirculated Coin

 

 

The Olympic coin design features the London skyline and the River Thames within a central circle. Iconic buildings depicted include Big Ben, Westminster Abbey, the Gherkin, St Paul’s Cathedral, the London Eye and the Tower of London, with London 2012 arching above. The outer ring of the design features pictograms representing various Olympic sports which are synonymous with the London 2012 Games.
Each coin is presented in a specially designed and informative wallet that sits within a silver-foiled slipcase detailing the coin’s design and specifications.

Salute to the heroes of India …

 

 

On 23 March 1931, Indian freedom fighter Bhagat Singh was hanged along with Rajguru, and Sukhdev. To commemorate this day Gorakhpur Postal Division issued a special cancellation “ homage to Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, Sukhdev.

Bhagat Singh : (28 September 1907 – 23 March 1931) was an Indian nationalist considered to be one of the most influential revolutionaries of the Indian independence movement. He is often referred to as Shaheed Bhagat Singh, the word Shaheed means "martyr". Read More….

Israel Memorial Day…

 

Hi !

Here is a beautiful stamp to be issued by Israel Post in April 2012 to mark Israel Memorial Day 2012. The stamp is beautifully designed to express the tributes to those heroes who lost their life in the War Independence. This is a very special way to remember the heroes of the war and console the bereaved families !! The design of the stamp features a child and  a red balloon in the sky with a special tab of Israel Post ! On the right side of Tab  is the Coat of Arms of the Israeli Defense Army on Israeli flag .

Israel Memorial Day 2012

The letter card, cover and stamp – all of which are special and unique to Memorial Day –constitute the basis of a sensitive, original and extraordinary tradition that came into being following the War of Independence. Since Memorial Day 1952, a long line of Presidents, Prime Ministers and Ministers of Defense have signed personal letters to bereaved families of the fallen and Israel's premier artists take part in designing the covers and stamps for this commemorative day. Thus, from year to year, an unprecedented tradition has formed which, over time, has become one of the most recognized and extraordinary ambassadors of Israel's commemorative culture.

The graphic design of the Memorial Day stamps has been expressed over the years symbolically and through monuments. The design of this stamp reflects the words of the song "Mi Shechalam" (He Who Dreamt).

Issue of ICMR coins of ` 5 denomination-"Circulatory Coins" The Reserve Bank of India will shortly put into circulation the following coins of ` 5 denomination, which shall conform to the following dimension, design and compositions, namely- SHAPE AND OUTSIDE DIAMETRE -Circular 23 millimeters
NUMBER OF SERRATIONS-----------100
METAL COMPOSITION-----------------Nickel Brass,Copper 75%,Zinc 20%,Nickel 5%

Design

OBVERSE
The face of the coin shall bear the Lion Capitol of Ashoka Pillar in the centre with the legend “सयमेव जयते " inscribed below, flanked on the left periphery with the word “भारत " in Hindi and on the right periphery with the word “INDIA” in English. It shall also bear the denominational value "` 5" in International Numerals below the Lion Capitol.
REVERSE
The face of the coin shall bear the emblem of Indian Council Medical Research with the logo "परीय कािरणोिह कुशलाभवित" inscribed below it. There will be three growing lines on the left and right side of the emblem and the year "1911-2011" shall be shown below the logo. The words "भारतीय आयुिवर्ज्ञान अनुसंधान पिरष" and below that "शतादी वषर् CENTENARY YEAR" will be flanked on the upper periphery and the words "INDIAN COUNCIL OF MEDICAL RESERCH" on the lower periphery. These coins are legal tender as provided in the Indian Coinage Act,1906. The existing coins in this denomination shall also continue to
be legal tender.

Issue of `100 Banknotes with "R" inset letter incorporation of Rupee symbol (`) The Reserve Bank of India will shortly issue `100 denomination Banknotes with "R" inset letter incorporating " `" symbol, in the Mahatma Gandhi Series-2005 bearing the signature of Dr. D. Subbarao, Governor , Reserve Bank of India, and the year of printing on the reverse of the Banknote. The design of these notes to be issued now is similar in all respects to the Banknotes of `100 in Mahatma Gandhi Series-2005 issued earlier. All the Banknotes in the denomination of `100 issued by the Bank in the past will continue to be legal tender.

Today is 11.11.11…..

Hi !

Today is very special date 11.11.11, eagerly awaited by all especially the philatelic community all over the world. At 11.11.11 on 11.11.11, the time and date will be a perfect same-numbered palindrome, reading the same backwards as forwards, an event which can only happen on one day every 100 years !

It is a special event for philatelists to get their covers cancelled with date 11.11.11 and send to their friends. I have also prepared some covers for my friends and will try to send them with special pictorial cancellation of Hidimba Temple, Manali. So I will be visiting Manali for 11.11.11 special cancellation …this will be purely a philatelic visit !!

Currency notes of number 11-11-11

Today is 11.11.11. The date is a perfect same-numbered palindrome, reading the same backwards as forwards. It is an event which can only happen on one day every 100 years and which will not come around again in the lifetime of most of us. This date is so unusual as 11.11.11 is the only double-figure palindromic date, since there is no 22nd month.

I collect currency notes, specially of fancy numbers. I have notes of this unique number 111111 in all the denominations i.e. Re. 1/-, Rs. 2/-, Rs. 5/-, Rs. 10/- , Rs. 20/-, Rs. 50, Rs. 100/-, Rs. 500/- and Rs. 1000/-. I am exhibiting here some of such notes.
