Weekly Royal Fashion Awards: April 28-May 4

It was a very quiet week last week...well, apart from the main event, of course! Nevertheless, a few people did have other engagements going on, so here we go - a special video edition (mostly just through Saturday, with the rest to come in our next weekly review):

Best Dressed
The Duchess of Cambridge
Visiting a children's hospice, click here for video.
It's Spring-y, it's sherbet-y, it's delicious! My non-inauguration favorite last week.

Best in Sparkle
Princess Mathilde
Presenting the Princess Mathilde Prize, click here for video.
This one's better in action, as you get some sparkle going on; the outfit itself is kind of odd, with a short top and trousers.

Best in Black
Queen Máxima
Attending a remembrance ceremony, click here for video.
A somber first engagement for the new King and Queen. (Máx was also in black for one pre-inauguration event, a rehearsal with the family.)

Best in Standard
Crown Princess Victoria
On a 2 day visit to Västra Götaland. Click here for video and here for another.
It was your standard visit for Victoria and Daniel - couple of day engagements (videos linked above) and a dinner in the evening. They brought Estelle with them...and once again, it was the highlight.

And a Hatted Honorable Mention to...
Grand Duchess Maria Teresa and Hereditary Grand Duchess Stéphanie
Stéphanie, Guillaume, Maria Teresa, and Henri at the closing of the Octave. Click here for video.
The good news: Stéphanie got the memo and stopped borrowing hats from Beatrix's closet. This is fancy (it sparkles!). The bad news: MT's pretty much just wearing a visor, I mean, you can dress it up all you want, but that's a hat without the hat part.

Weekly Royal Fashion Awards: April 14-21

Best in Housecoats
The Duchess of Cambridge
Video: Attending the National Review of the Queen's Scouts
At first glance, this is totally a housecoat from the 1950s - and now that little curl on the hat is nothing but a hair curler in my brain.

Best in Fancy
Princess Letizia
At the launch of a campaign against cancer; attending a concert organized by the Luca de Tena Foundation
Oh la la! Well, look who decided to be fancy once again.

Best in Birthday
Crown Princess Mary and the Danish Royal Family
Celebrating Queen Margrethe's birthday with the traditional balcony appearance, with a close up on Mary's brooch
Last week was a busy one for royal birthdays: Margrethe plus Henri and Sébastian of Luxembourg on the same day, Elizabeth II plus Isabella here on the same day, and others. Margrethe and Mary seemed to have a bit of a turquoise theme going on, though I think Mary has a bit to learn in terms of brooch positioning from her mother-in-law - this seems a bit of a fancy caterpillar, crawling across her shirt.
Queen Margrethe and Prince Henrik; Prince Joachim, Princess Marie, and family

Best in Print
Princess Mathilde
At a symposium on victim assistance (with a special escort); at a gala evening benefiting the King Baudouin Foundation; attending an awards ceremony; visiting the province of Luxembourg
This is a pretty good week for Mathilde, no? Don't even mind the paintbox leftovers at the end there.

Worst in...I Don't Even Know
Crown Princess Mette-Marit
Attending the Coop Environmental Awards; visiting Arbeidsinstituttet
I was like, "Oooh, Märtha Louise is running the competition for Worst of 2013," and then M-M was like, "OH REALLY?!" So she took that thing Mary wore that was already dubious, and she did...I don't know, but SHOOTIES are involved.

Best in Combos
Crown Princess Victoria
Visiting the Sweden-America Foundation
I like purple. I like zebra (on the shoes). Therefore, I suppose I like this.

And a Bonus Tiara Watch...
Grand Duchess Maria Teresa
Gala evenings during the Grand Duke and Grand Duchess' state visit to Austria
I didn't understand why Maria Teresa let Natan put a big ol' fake brooch on her outfit for her son's wedding, and I really don't understand why she allowed it on a gala evening - she has some large brooches, the real deal, to use instead. (Sadly, the dress had even more issues, click here for more pictures.) We take solace in the everlasting loveliness of the Belgian Scroll Tiara she is wearing, and of the fact that she brought back Elie Saab for the next evening event.

Weekly Royal Fashion Awards (+ Other Things): November 19-25

Sorry for the radio silence yesterday - thanks to those that emailed, I assure you I'm not dead. (Yet.) I am however in a bit of a post-holiday daze accented by cold medicine, so if I make even less sense than usual, there you go. That's my story, and I'm sticking to it. So let's have a big ol' update to get us up to speed, shall we? It's a week in review and a wee trip report and a touch of a tiara watch, all in one package.

Best in Team Spirit
The Duchess of Cambridge
Attending the Wales v. New Zealand rugby match
Perhaps the most predictable outfit from last week, a repeat in the proper spirited color. Not spirited enough, though: Wales lost to New Zealand. Next time, bring the face paint.

Best in Kids
Princess Letizia
Audiences and a lunch in honor of the visiting President of Brazil; attending the Francisco Cerecedo Journalism Award ceremony; visiting King Juan Carlos in the hospital after his most recent surgery
Just can't resist those wee infantas.

Most Dubious Shoes
Crown Princess Mary
Celebrating a new project for her Mary Foundation
It's as though she couldn't decide if she wanted the boot effect or the shootie effect...so she went with the trousers at just the right length to catch only some of the time. Oh, Mar. There is no "best of both worlds" when shooties are involved.

Most Textured
Princess Mathilde
Visiting a boarding school; attending the European Symposium for Family Assistants
That beige top has this bumpy thing going on that I just do. not. enjoy. Needs to be a different color so as to be certain that's not her skin with the problem. Perhaps a nice chocolate, like the other outfit here.

Best in Purple
Crown Princess Victoria
Visiting Fagersta Municipality
As long as someone fits in a purple category each week, I'm good.

Tamest Trip
Princess Máxima
On an official trip to Brazil (click to enlarge)
Willem-Alexander and Máxima spent 5 days in Brazil last week. I'm sorry to report that it was just an official visit, which means it wasn't quite the sparkly hat-tacular extravaganza we get when these two roll with the Queen Bea. But! There was dancing. Obviously the bestest part.
Unfortunately, that does not excuse the fact that we missed yet another tiara appearance from Máx, as they missed welcoming the Slovakian President. Boo!
Princess Margriet (far left) is wearing the family emerald tiara in its pearl setting; Queen Beatrix (far right) is wearing Queen Emma's Diamond Tiara, which is one of her favorites
Who caught your eye last week?
