Haakon and Mette-Marit's wedding was a white tie affair, complete with gowns and tiaras. Today, we talk gowns and hand out some retroactive fashion awards; tomorrow...well, I think you know what we talk about on Thursdays. I'm predictable like that.

Best in Simple
Máxima Zorreguieta
Left to right: The Countess of Wessex; Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden, Queen Anne-Marie of Greece, Máxima Zorreguieta, Princess Madeleine of Sweden, Princess Alexia of Greece
It's like a parade of decade-old prom dresses: super simple, and often shiny like wrapping paper. (Some even including a second layer of wrapping...like Anne-Marie and her mosquito net!) These are curiously dated and current at the same time. My favorite has to be Miss Máxima. I did not forget her princess title, mind you: she was still a royal fiancé at the time. And though this is just about the polar opposite of what we'd expect from today's Princess Máxima, it's perfect for a non-princess at a princess event.Left to right: The Countess of Wessex; Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden, Queen Anne-Marie of Greece, Máxima Zorreguieta, Princess Madeleine of Sweden, Princess Alexia of Greece
Best in Typical Form
Queen Sofia
L to R: Princess Astrid of Norway, Grand Duchess Joséphine Charlotte of Luxembourg, Queen Sofia of Spain, Queen Paola of the Belgians
You reach a certain age, and your style finds a spot and stays there for the rest of the ride. Such is the case with these ladies. Except for Joséphine Charlotte, who passed away in 2005, any of these women could repeat these outfits at any time. (Astrid certainly has, on several occasions.) Sofia seems to have the most elegant handle on it, so she wins.Best in Non-Pastel
Princess Sibilla
L to R: Princess Nathalie of Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg, Princess Sibilla of Luxembourg, Princess Laurentien of the Netherlands
Most of these ladies came dressed for a summer wedding for this late August party, but I love those that branched out from the Pastel Army, including Sophie and Paola above. My favorite by far, though, is Luxembourg's Princess Sibilla. That is one killer red dress.Best in Pink
Grand Duchess Maria Teresa
L to R: Princess Alexandra of Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg, Grand Duchess Maria Teresa of Luxembourg, Princess Benedikte of Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg
Princess Alexandra: the most dated of them all? Discuss. Her mother, Benedikte, is faring much better in her simple pink frock, but Maria Teresa's my winner. Love her non-shawl covered shoulders solution!Best in Costume
Princess Märtha Louise
L to R: Queen Sonja of Norway, Princess Märtha Louise of Norway, Queen Silvia of Sweden, Queen Margrethe of Denmark
You have to love the spirit of those that go all out for a big event, even when the results are questionable. Silvia, for example, looks fantastic - it's just that her dress has already begun shedding its leaves for the fall. Margrethe is in my favorite color, but isn't that an awfully Barbie-licious look for a reigning Queen? Sonja went for the medieval costume with her giant sleeves, but nobody commits to a costume like her daughter. Märtha Louise's dress has little hearts bedazzled on the bodice, and her gloves have the word "Love" on them. Over the top and humorous, all in one.Who was your best-dressed?
