Royal Trend Watch: The Royal Sporting Spirit

The Olympics are fast approaching, and we should see an array of royals in their national best rooting on their teams. A few royals are already getting in the mood with some pre-Olympic sporting events...and a selection of sporting (and not so sporting) looks.

The Windsors at Wimbledon, left to right: the Prince of Wales, the Duke of Cambridge, Princess Michael of Kent, Princess Eugenie, Lady Frederik Windsor
The royal box at Wimbledon's always a hotbed of Windsors this time of year. The Prince of Wales, with the Duchess of Cornwall in tow, attended for the first time in a long time; the Cambridges popped up to watch Andy Murray; a bunch of Kents turned up, including the Duke, Prince and Princess Michael, and Lady Frederik Windsor; and Princess Eugenie led them all on the first day. Unfortunately, Wimbledon's not really a team color sort of thing, so we have to give special attention to those that suited up in the tennis spirit.
L to R: the Duke of Kent, Prince Michael of Kent, the Duchess of Cornwall, the Duchess of Cambridge
The Kent brothers made sure the wear their Wimbledon ties - especially appropriate for the Duke, who is the President of the club and presents the trophies. On the ladies' side, Camilla and Kate showed up in their tennis whites, with Kate repeating the McQueen knit dress she wore in Canada last year.

Elsewhere, in a far more spirited land...
...the Spanish royal family welcomed home their Euro 2012 champions. And you know what that means: more infantas manhandling the trophy! Knowing these two are part of the welcome committee is reason enough for me to root for Spain.
Felipe and Letizia's daughters, Infanta Leonor and Infanta Sofia
We must also give a wave of the sartorial flag to Infanta Elena, who showed off some incognito royal spirit in the crowds, with her hat flipped back and a flag for an accessory.
Fingers crossed she brings her face-painting kit to London with her this summer. This could be the most festive royal Olympics yet.
