Festivals of India - Durga Puja

Hi! I am back with some interesting items to show you in this high time of festivals. Navratri has filled the hearts and minds with songs and celebrations provoking the cities of India into light, color. dancing and music. I just picked some special covers from my collection to show for today's Post and making them very special today. Readers in Gujrat, Orissa, West Bengal and Assam must be having a great time as there are very special celebrations in these states during this season.A special greeting card issued by India Post on the occasion of Vijay Dashmi which was designed by Shri Dipok Dey of Calcutta. The envelope bears his autograph too. I am pleased to show a FDC issued on famous cities of India. It depicts very important cities - Cuttack, Hyderabad and Bikaner. All of them have specific cultural values. As I had spent a long time in Orissa I got a chance to see Durga Puja in Cuttack. Cuttack is known for its beautiful Silver craft work. Its silver jewellery is famous all over the world because of its very typical and fine silver work. During Durga Puja there is pure silver decoration in some of the Pandals and the idol of Goddess Durga is adorned with sparkling silver work. It is exquisite and a speciality of Cuttack. In Gujarat there is a great fascination for Dandia & Garba. Here is a Cover depicting traditional dance of Gujarat. Well all of you are doing lot of shopping and purchasing special sweets on this festive occasion. A message for you through a Meghdoot card. In Club News a detailed news about Karphilex-2008, Bangalore sent by our distinguished member Mr. Jagannath Mani from Bangalore. It is not only the season of festivals but also a time to celebrate and enjoy the philatelic exhibitions which just started from Chandigarh. One more photo of the exhibition sent by Mr. Rakesh Walia from City Beautiful. In our regular series the second last se-tenants from the album of Mr. Shrikant Parikh.
