Hi ! In the tradition of the Olympic Games, a new sporting event is being held in Singapore - the 2010 Summer Youth Olympics (YOG) from August 14 – 26.These Games have given a chance to see 3,531 athletes between 14 and 18 years of age from 204 National Olympic Committees competing in 184 events in 26 sports. To commemorate this event special stamps have been issued by various postal administrations. All the stamps are very nice. But a miniature sheet from Romania is very special for me as it also features a Rainbow on it ….In Club News I am pleased to publish news about a workshop on Philately held in Kanpur GPO. Well, the place which I visited many times and started getting my first stamps since my school days..Thanks to distinguished philatelist of Kanpur Mr Rajpreet Singh Saluja who shares news about the workshop here…Heartiest Congratulations to noted philatelist and President of Ludhiana Philatelic Club Mr Yashpal Bangia who was recently conferred Punjab State Independence Day Award by CM of Punjab … This is all for Today….Till Next Post …..Have a Nice Time !
On 14 August 2010, the Singapore Youth Olympic Games Organising Committee in collaboration with the Singapore Post launched four Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games (Singapore 2010) stamps.
A set of four stamps feature the Singapore 2010 Mascots, Lyo and Merly, in poses showcasing the Culture and Education Programme (CEP) and Singapore 2010 Sports.
The first two designs highlight the World Culture Village and Island Adventure formats of CEP. Athletes will learn about diverse cultures, teamwork and leadership through these two activities. The next two designs feature the Mascots in their favourite sports of Aquatics – Swimming and Basketball respectively.

State Award for Ludhiana Philatelist
Mr Yash Pal Bangia, President, Ludhiana Philatelic Club, was conferred Punjab State Independence Day Award by Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal at the Independence Day function in Ferozepur on Sunday, 15th August. Yashpal Bangia, a retired public relations officer of the postal department has dedicated over 35 years to philately and has emerged as a prolific writer. He took the initiative to begin the Ludhiana Philatelic Club in the city in 1973 with members from all walks of life. He has written six books on philately.Recently he has also published two books for senior citizens, “Dhalti Umar Badhte Kadam” Part-I and Part-II. He was instrumental in establishing The Stamp Gallery at the science city in Kapurthala. He is still pursuing the hobby of stamp collection with zeal and at the same time more devoted to the promotion of the philately among children.
Workshop on Philately at GPO Kanpur
A two Day Workshop on Philately was conducted at GPO Kanpur on the 4th and 5th of August 2010 . Students from several schools participated in the workshop . A Quiz Competition was also organized .Winners were given certificates . Lot of information regarding Philately was given to the students .
