Wedding Wednesday: March Brides

March doesn't seem to be so popular for the weddings, but I think we've got some interesting bits of bridal here nevertheless:

Alexandra, Countess of Frederiksborg and Martin Jørgensen
March 3, 2007
Less pouf than her first wedding gown, but still ever so bridal.

María del Carmen Martínez-Bordiú y Franco and Alfonso, Duke of Anjou and Cádiz
March 8, 1972
This wedding - of General Franco's granddaughter and King Alfonso XIII's grandson, a claimant to the French throne - might not normally draw our attention here, but the dress is particularly interesting. It was the last one made by Cristóbal Balenciaga, who came out of retirement to craft it (reportedly remaking it just two days before the wedding because he was unhappy with the fit). He died two weeks later.

The Prince of Wales and Princess Alexandra of Denmark
March 10, 1863
Of the period it may be, but this dress always looks like a giant wedding cake to me.

Princess Beatrix of the Netherlands and Claus von Amsberg
March 10, 1966
Yes, we will cover this dress (and tiara) this month. I know some of you have been waiting for this one for a long time!

Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, Crown Prince of Iran and Princess Fawzia of Egypt
March 15, 1939
The first of three marriages for the last Shah of Iran, his union with the stunning Fawzia was one of particular political convenience. They had a daughter together, but divorced in the 1940s.

March 16, 1978
Fun fact:  the post I wrote on the Duchess' wedding gowns is one of the most viewed posts here. She fascinates people, apparently.

March 18, 1995
Ah, the good old days, pre-scandal for the Spanish royal family.

Prince Jean of Luxembourg and Diane de Guerre
March 18, 2009
This was a civil ceremony, and the second wedding for Jean. He's one of Grand Duke Henri's brothers, and he has a twin sister, who is...

March 20, 1982
...Margaretha right here! Go figure. And she herself had a nearly twin wedding with their sister, marrying just weeks apart.

Crown Prince Olav of Norway and Princess Märtha of Sweden
March 21, 1929
We've talked about Märtha multiple times when discussing Norwegian jewels (these two are the parents of King Harald, Princess Ragnhild, and Princess Astrid), I thought a peek at her wedding gown might be fun. Shorter in the front but still with a long train - the 1920s loved a mullet wedding gown.

March 21, 2002
A refreshing change of pace from the white gown tradition, I think.

Which is your favorite March gown?
